6 Protective Styles to try this Spring

Springtime is a great time to try something new for hair. And with these six protective styles, you can provide the care that your curls need without compromising your fresh look.

Braided or twisted bob

Whether you choose to add weave or just want to use your own natural hair, twisting or braiding your hair into a bob is a cute and timeless style for you to wear. And, it can last as long as you’d like it to. Try our Seal It Up — Hydrating Sealing Butter for this look.

Braids with twisted ends

Take your style to the next level by going half and half with braids and twists. Give yourself a stylish set of flat braids and once you get to the part of your hair that you feel comfortable with, start twisting the ends instead of braiding them. You can do a ponytail, braided front and twisted back or plenty of other styles. Our Curl Mane-tenance — Defining Curl Whip can be used to achieve this style.

Havana twists

Over recent years, Havana twists have become an extremely popular protective style for naturals. If you want to spice things up a bit, add some color to your hair instead of choosing your natural hair color. While in this protective style though, be sure to keep your scalp moisturized with our Half & Half — Hydrating Silkening Hair Milk.

Bun hawk updo

Not every protective style requires you to use weave or wear a braided style. Some can be created with a bit of creativeness and your own natural tresses. The bun hawk updo is one of those styles. All you do is create buns out of your frohawk puffs to develop a fresh new look for yourself. Be sure to use the Slicked! Flexible Styling Gel to get your edges laid down right.

Highlighter braids

Whether you’re going for box braids or cornrows, adding in a bit of color to your braids can really take the look to the next level. Choosing fun colors that reflect the new season can give you the opportunity to really showcase your personality through your hair. Be sure to keep your scalp in good health by applying the Soft All Over — Multi-purpose Oil as often as needed.

Braided mohawk

Love rocking the frohawk with your natural hair, but want to keep your ends protected? Add a bit of edge to your style by braiding the hair into one big braid down the center of your head. You can even braid up the sides of the mohawk, too. And, as always, remember to keep your hair moisturized by applying a good oil to your scalp. The Nourish My Hair — Flaxseed & Monoi oil will be great for this.
