How to Keep High Porosity Hair Moisturized

on February 04, 2020

Though hair porosity does not get as much shine as curl patterns or length retention, it is actually very important in keeping your hair at its best. Those with high porosity, for example, may often experience dry and thirsty hair that produces frizzy, dry and lifeless curls. They might also find themselves using more of a product just to obtain a specific style. If this happens to be you and you’re tired of plopping on the product to get minimal moisture, here are five tips on how you can keep high porosity hair moisturized.

Have a go-to conditioner.

No matter the porosity of your hair, you should be conditioning your hair regularly. For high porosity hair though, finding the right conditioner that does not contain silicones is extremely important. This conditioner should be able to easily move between your palms, but be rich enough to coat the entirety of your hair. There should also be good slip to help with detangling. The In Control — Moisturizing & Softening Conditioner is a great choice for this.

Deep condition regularly.

Just like you should have a go-to conditioner, you should implement deep conditioning or using a masque into your regular routine, too. Intensive conditioning treatments can be used on an as-needed basis or as often as you wash; it’s up to you and the state of your hair. Deep conditioning helps hair retain moisture and that’s something that those with high porosity hair need. Try using the Fix My Hair — Intensive Repair Conditioning Masque when you’re ready for your next deep condition or masque treatment.

Find a good leave-in conditioner.

High porosity hair needs to get and maintain as much moisture as possible and finding the right leave-in conditioner can help with that. The Knot On My Watch — Instant Detangling Therapy — which helps detangle hair — can also be used as an incredible leave-in on both freshly washed hair and hair that needs a refresh.

Be sure to use heavier products to compensate for what you’re missing.

Finding the right moisturizer for your high porosity hair may be difficult, but the key to retaining moisture is using products that will help you lock it in. For high porosity hair, heavier products with natural oils are very helpful in retaining moisture. Our Seal It Up — Hydrating Sealing Butter — which includes heavy butters and oils like avocado and shea butter — is a great product to start with.

Seal with the right butter or oil.

The right butters and oils can help seal and reinforce the moisture your hair takes in without sending it back out. Follow up the Seal It Up — Hydrating Sealing Butter with the Soft All Over — Multi-purpose Oil to obtain optimal moisture retention.
